HAMLET Test
200 points
(180 for test answers; 20 for correct documentation of quotations and Works Cited as well as spelling, etc.)

Be sure to support your answers with Act.scene.line(s) cited like this:
“The time is out of joint” (1.5.210).

1. Hamlet’s relationships with the other characters in the play are complicated. Choose three relationships; analyze how Hamlet is impacted by each (three quotations – one for each relationship). 60 points
Claudius- Claudius is Hamlet's new step father. He married Hamlets mother 2 months after King Hamlet died. That is a quick decision after you have been together with someone for so long, 2 months after he died you are already re married. Hamlet is disgusted with his mothers decision and he feels that she is making a really bad decision and he doesn't care for her anymore. Claudius says that he needs to get over himself saying that his father is dead and that he should be happy for his mother that she has found someone else in her life to love. This even makes Hamlet even more mad because Claudius just pretty much told him that he was immature and he needs to get over his feelings. I am on hamlets side because if my father died i would mourn it for more than 2 months. And if my mother got married that quick after it. Hamlet thinks something is fishy with Claudius. He thinks he just married the queen so he could be king. He investigates and tries to find out how his father died because he knows it was a murder. Hamlet puts on a play and re acts his fathers death by having king claudius (actor) pour poisen down King Hamlets ear. When this scene was in the play and Claudius saw it he stood up and he said that he needed fresh air. When Hamlet saw this he knew that he was the one who killed his father by pouring poison down his ear." The king wants Hamlet to go to England to be excuted. He tells Hamlet that he is sending him their to go clear his mind and all of his problems. But he was really sending him their to be excuted. He had Rosencrantz and Guildenstern take Hamlet their. Hamlet knew about the letter they were going to show the king of England. So what he did was switch the letter from saying hamlet was a trader and needed to be executed to have it be saying that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were the real traders and they were the ones that needed to be excuted. And that's what happened those to were executed. Now might i do it, he is a praying, and now I'll do it (he draws his sword.) and so he goes to heaven and so am i revenged. that would be scanned: "A villian kills my father, and for that, i, his sole son, do teh same villian send to heaven. " (3.3.80-83). This quote is when Hamlet is going to kill Claudius but he is praying so he would go to heaven. He wants to kill him when he is drunk or doing something when he would go to hell. So he waits to kill him. Hamlet doesn't like Claudius and he thinks he deserves death for what he did to his father.

Horatio- Horatio is one of Hamlets good freinds. He is loyal to Hamlet and he doesn't betray him like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. He went to the university in Wittenberg to study with the prince. After Hamlet died, he told the rest of the Hamlet story. In the beginning of the story Horatio saw the ghost which is Hamlets father. He tells Hamlet that he saw him and he and Horatio go and and try to find the ghost and they do. This shows me that Hamlet has a lot of trust and he knows that Horatio is really loyal to him since he believed him when he told him about his fathers ghost. If my father died and someone said they saw my dad's ghost I wouldn't believe them in the first place. And I would probably get angry with them when they said it. " Hamlet: It will not speak. Then i will follow it. Horatio: Do not my lord. Hamlet: why, what should be the fear? i do not set my life at a pin's fee and for my woul, what can it do to that, being a think immortal as itself? it waves me forth again. I'll follow it."(1.4.70-75).This is when Horatio, Marcellus, and Hamlet go and find the ghost. Hamlet is curious of who it is because it goes away, so he follows it and Horatio thinks that is a bad thing to do. I think that Horatio and Hamlet have the kind of relationships that i have with my friends. We are loyal and we trust each other and we don't ever turn our backs on one another.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern- These 2 also went to Wittenberg with Horatio and Hamlet. Both these 2 were realy good friends with Hamlet. But then they turned their back on him and they spyed on Horatio for King Claudius. Hamlet liked them in the beginning but then once he figured out he was a trader he didn't like them anymore. Once he found out that Claudius killed his dad by pouring poisen into his ear. Claudius wanted him to go to England. So Rosencrantz and Guilednstern took him there to the king. They gave the king a letter that was suppose to say how Hamlet was a trader and that he should be executed, but instead Hamlet found out about this evil plan and he changed the his name out of the letter and put Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. " Hamlet: Ay, Sir, taht soaks up the king's countenace, his rewards, his authorites. but such officers do the ding best service in teh end. He keeps them like an ape and apple in the corner of his jaw, first mouthed, gleaned, it is but squeezing you, and, sponge, you shall be dry again." (4.2.15-20). This quote shows how the people under King Claudius are bossed around and they are not allowed to be their true person inside him. This is Hamlet saying to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern how they are just the King's two people that he just bosses around.

2. Revenge, redemption, loyalty, indecision, love, appearance vs. reality, and betrayal are significant themes in the play. Choose three of these and explain how each theme affects the characters and the outcome of the play (three quotations – one for each theme). 60 points
Revenge- In the book Hamlet thier is a lot of Revenge. Hamlet is looking for revenge the whole time against his step father/ uncle Claudius. The reason he is looking for revenge is because he killed his father. He killed him by pouring poisen down his ear. It was a very painful death. He also is mad at the king because he married his mother 2 months after he killed King Hamlet. He is very angry in whole book at Claudius. Claudius tells Hamlet to pretty much get over himself and just accept that his father is dead. In the end of the book the king sets up a fight betwene Laertes and Hamlet and if Laertes does prevail like the king wanted to he would give Hamlet a glass of wine. The king would tell him it's a reward for winning against Laertes. Instead the queen drinks it and dies. This makes Hamlet even more mad and angry towards the king. He gets mad because now the king killed his Mom and his Dad. He stabs Claudius with the poisened sword. He dies but so does hamlet. " Hamlet: Here, thou incestuous, damned dane, drink off the potion. Is thy union here. ( Forcing him to drink the poisen.) Follow my mother." (5.2.356-359). This quote shows what Hamlet has been looking for this whole time. Revenge on Claudius. Even though he died he got what he wanted and that was for Claudius to go to hell.
Loyalty- Loyalty was a big part of the book Hamlet. Horatio was always a loyal and helpful Hamlet through the whole play. His mom wasn't loyal to King Hamlet. Because after he was brutely murdered she married the person that killed him 2 months after he died. "Queen: Good Hamlet, cast thy nighted color off, and let thine eye look like a friend on Denmark. Do not forever with thy vailed lids seek for thy noble father in the dust. Thou know'tis common; all that lives must die, passing through nature to eternity." (1.2.70-75) This quote is the queen talking to Hamlet telling him to just get over his fathers death saying that death is a part of life and saying that he is going to heaven and having eternal life. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern also don't show loyalty to Hamlet when they turn their back on him to help Claudius. They spy on Hamlet for Claudius.

Betrayal- Betrayal is also a huge part of Hamlet. Claudius shows betrayal when he married his brothers wife after he killed his own brother. "'Tis sweet and commendable in your nature, Hamlet to give these mourning duties to your father. But you must know your father lost a father, that father lost, lost his, and the survivor bound in filial obligation for some term to do obsequious sorrow. But to persever in obstiniate condolement is a course of imious stubbornous."(1.2.90-95). This quote shows how Claudius is really clever with the words he uses. It also shows how he is trying to make Hamlet sound like a stubborn baby for mourning the death of his father. Witch i think is wrong and that just shows how he betrayed him. So that he could be king. And the Queen also showed betrayal when she married Claudius. Hamlet and Horatio are the big 2 that don't show anything towards betrayal. I think their is a reason why they are good freinds. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern betrayed Hamlet becasue they were friends at the Wittenberg but then they spied on Hamlet because the king told them too.

3. Has Hamlet changed?
You may compare the soliloquies from
1.2.133-164
2.2.575-636
3.1.63-99
4.4.33-69
or you may use other textual evidence that you have prepared to answer this question (three quotations – beginning, “middle,” and end). 60 points
In the beginning of the book Hamlet is depressed and he is just mourning the death of his father. He is also upset that is mother is already re married and that his father was murdered by his uncle. Horatio tells him that he saw a ghost and he believe that it is his fathers ghost. He is very optimistic about his fathers ghost. "Hamlet: Did you not speak to it? Horatio: My lord i did but answer made it none. Yet once metthough it lifed up its head and did address itself to motion, like as it would speak; but even then the morning cock crew lud, and at the sound it shrunk in haste away and vanished from our sight. Hamlet: 'Tis very strange." (1.2.225-230).

In the middle of the book he is seeking out revenge on Claudius he had a plot to kill him but when he went up to kill him he was praying and since he was praying at the moment he died he would go to heaven. Hamlet didn't want him in the place where he would like it there. He wanted him in HELL! " Hamlet I'll be with you straigth. Go a little before how all occasions do inform against me and spur my dull revenge." This quote is Hamlet talking to himself about how angry he is and how bad he wants revenge and for him to finally be happy becasue he gots revenge.

In the end of the book he is in a fighting mood. He kills Rosencrantz and Guildenstern by tricking the king of england and the Claudius the king. By writing their names on the letter saying that hamlet was the trader but he changed it to say that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were the traders. So they got executed not hamlet. He doesn't care if he dies he just wants revenge on the king. He finally gets his revenge on the king when he dies on act 5 scene 2. Along with Laertes. The person Hamlet had to fight at the end of the book that was set up by the King. "Laertes: He is justly served. It is a poison tempered by himself exchange forgiveness with me, noble hamlet. Mine and my father's death come not upon theee, nor think on me." (5.2.359-265). This qoute is pretty much saying that it wasn't Hamlets fault that he died and it wasn't his own. It was king Claudius plan.

Ex. “I ended his reign, avenged his crime” (Raffel 84).
YOU MUST HAVE A WORKS CITED (WORTH 10 POINTS) -- SEE BEOWULF UNIT PLAN ON THIS BLOG PAGE

1. Literary scholars contend that Beowulf is the quintessential good vs. evil story.
Explain how the poem depicts good vs. evil by citing at least three examples. You must have THREE QUOTATIONS (one for each example); also, make sure your “argument” is clearly written and supported by evidence from the story.
60 points
Grendel vs. Beowulf
In chapter 11 the king wanted Grendel to be taken down and he knew the one guy that could do it. That guy is Beowulf. The king asked Beowulf if he could kill Grendel. Beowulf is a hero and he is not going to back down from a challenge. So Beowulf accepted the challenge. Grendel burst into Heroet and he ripped the door straight from its hinges. He saw beowulf and he went for him first. When he went down to pick him up Beowulf grabbed his arm and Grendal never felt so much strength in his life before he realized then he was in a hole fighting against Beowulf. "Grendels one thought was to run from beowulf, flle back to his marsh and hide there." (pg 34) right when i read this in the book I knew that Beowulf was going to beat Grendel in the fight. And that is what he did. When he grasped his arm he ripped it right out of the socket. Once all of the townspeople found out that Beowulf had defeated Grendel they all were happy and cheerful. "The victory, for the proof, hanging high from the rafters where Beowulf had hung it, was the monster's Arm, claw, and shoulder and all." (pg 37)All the people of Danes had visual proof that Beowulf killed Grendel. Grendel went back into his swamp to die in his last few days before desended into hell.

Beowulf Vs. Grendels Mother
In the beginning of chapter 19 Grendels Mother was looking for revenge for killing her son Grendel. She came into the hall that the men were all sleeping and she grabbed Hrothgars trusted adviser, Aeschere. She went down the hall and she was gone. Beowulf couldn't stop her because he was in different sleeping quarters. Hrothgar told Beowulf what had happened and now Beowulf wants to go and kill Grendels Mother. She retreated in a magical place where she keeps her lair. The water burns and the bottom of the lake has never been reached. Still Beowulf is determined to go down their and kill her. On the way to the lake Beowulf and his soliders discover Aeshere's head on the ground this just makes Beowulf angrier. Before Beowulf goes down to hell Unferth gives him a nobel sword that has never lost in battle. Beowulf then swims down to the bottom of the lake and Grendels mother smells him coming she grabs him and throws him into court with all of these sea monsters. They are all biting and clawing at his skin but not one of them can penatrate his skin. Beowulf takes a swing with Unferths sword at Grendels Mom but it didn't do anything. The water has mystical powers that if you bring anything down from Earth it doesn't have an affect in hell. But then he noticed a Giant sword on the wall. " Then he saw, hangingon the wall, a heavy Sword, hammered by giants, strong and blessed with their magic, the best of all weapons but so massive that no ordinary man could lift its carved and decorated length. He drew it from its scabbard, broke the chain on its hilt, and then, savage, now, angry and desperate, lifted it high over his head an struck with all the stregth he had left, caught her in the neck and cut it through, broke bones and all. Her body fell to the floor, lifless, the sword was wet with her blood, and Beowulf rejoiced at the sight." (pg 68) Up on Earth all the Danes saw the blood come to the top of the water and thought that their beloved hero was dead and they went home but Beowulfs kingsmen stayed their and waited. Back down at the bottom of the lake Beowulf went over to Grendels body and cut of his head he also cut off Grendels moms head and then he swam to the top of the water and the kingsmen rejoiced that he was still alive.

Beowulf vs. The dragon
Now that Beowulf is getting older he is not as strong but he is still willing to fight for his country and for what he believs is right. The dragon is beneath the earth guarding buried treasure and it has been doing it for the past 300 years. He has been doing so because a theive stole a gem covered goblet. Now since it is missing the dragon is looking for it and he is coming out at night and breathing fire on peoples homes and towns. His next target was Beowulfs house. He blew fire on it and burned it down right to the ground. Beowulf was stunned and wondered why he deserved this. He then assembled 11 men to go and fight this Dragon. When they got to its hole it came out and Beowulf didn't have as much strenght as he did when he was younger. He swung his sword as hard as he could and didn't even pierce the scales. When the 11 men saw this they all ran away. Except for 1. That mans name was Wiglaf. Beowulf takes another swing at the Dragons Head with the sword but it snaps and half and the dragon got a bite right on the back of his neck. He stabbed the dragon in the flank. It was a fatal blow. Beowulf then realized that the dragons was venoumus and that he is dying. " Our lord s dead, leader of the people the dragon killed him, but the beast is dead, too cut in half by a daggar; Beowulfs enemy sleeps in its blood. No sword could pierce its skin, wound that monster. Wiglaf is sitting in mourning close to beowulf's body." (Pg 118)

2. How would you describe Beowulf’s attitude toward life – his beliefs and values? You must have TWO QUOTATIONS cited correctly to support your opinion.
40 points
Beowulf had a lot of strong beliefs and values. He had pride for his country. Every time a situation that came up and something needed to be taken care of Beowulf would stand up to the challenge and he would fight against whatever it was no matter how big/powerful. " That might protector of men meant to hold the monster till itsl ife leaped out, knowing the fiend was no use to anyone in denmark." (pg 36) this show how he is the PEOPLE PROTECTOR. He was a legacy. The Danes see Beowulf as a legacy since he defeated 3 of the strongest things put on teh Earth. All 3 of them single-handedly. He put other people in his country before himself. He kind of reminds me of jesus. He sacraficed his body, his blood, his flesh all for the people around him. "This bloody battle, stand when the fighting is done. No one else could do what i mean to here no man bu me could hope to defeat this monster." (pg 104) This shows that he is everyones hero/savior. He did all what he did for the people of his country. That just shows how he would put anyone in his country in front of himself. THIS IS A HUGE HERO TRAIT!!!!! Believes he was put on earth to be gods right arm. He believes that god wants him to take down these evil people and thats why he think he was put on this Earth. He believes in realtionships between his troops and him this shows that he wants his army to be like a family so that they fight like 1 and are a good army. When Beowulf would defeat somone or somthing they always had partys and they would exchange gifts this shows that they value courage when people go in battle. He believes in getting honored for what he has done.
I just listed a lot of things that beowulf believes in and values. i hope thats okay!:)

3. Is Beowulf a braggart or is he honest? Is he guilty of hubris? State your opinion and support with specific examples and ONE QUOTATION cited correctly.
30 points

I believe that Beowulf is a true hero because he has the hero qualities that i believe what makes up a hero. He is strong, Confiedent, brave, and doesn't back down on a fight or challenge."Grendel is no braver, no stronger, than i am! i could kill him with my sword; i shall note easy as it would be. this fiend is a bold and famous fighter, but his claws and teeth scratching at my shield , his clumsy fists beating at my sword blade, would be helpless. i will meet him with my hands empty--unless his heart fails him." (pg. 31-32) This quote just tells me how he is a true hero and believes in himself and has a lot of confidence which is good to be when your a hero.

" No one strange to this land has ever been granted what i've given you, No one in all my years of rule. Make this best of all mead-halls yours, and then keep it free of evil, Fight with glory in your heart! Purge Herot and your ship will sail home with its treasures holds full!" (Pg 30) When Herot asked Beowolf if he could take down Grendel, Beowolf didn't back down from the challenge he was gladly to take him down and kill him. When he had his encounter with Grendel. Grendal was really confident going into the fight but once he realized how strong Beowulf had his grip on his arm. Quickly after he grabbed his arm he ripped it clearly off the socket. Then he eventually killed and defeated Grendal. He took the arm back to Hrothgar as a medal or a trophy that he killed Grendal. All the people danced around it and were in great cheer! Then he went down to hell and he found Grendels moms he brought a sword that he got from Unferth. It was Unferths dad's and that shows that he really has changed from the beginning of the book since now he is doing stuff for his country and just not for himself. He couldn't use the sword in hell because anything you brought from earth or the good side was useless in hell. I defiantly think that Beowulf is seen as a Hero. Not a braggert.

4. Choose three themes from Beowulf besides good vs. evil. Explain how they are implicated in the poem using at least one quotation for each theme -- THREE QUOTATIONS TOTAL.
60 points
For my 3 themes i'm going to use Loyalty, Couragous, and leadership.
Beowulf is a really loyal guy. He does stuff that normal people wouldn't do for their countries. For example when he fights for his country in my eyes that is seen as one of the most respectful things you can do because your risking your life everyday for your country. He is loyal because he fights Grendel, Grendels mom and the dragon I was surprised when Wiglaf stayed with Beowulf as he fought the Dragon he was the only one to stay witch showed he was the most loyal to Beowulf. When Beowulf does something he doesn't back out he goes through with his actions. This is another hero trait. Much of Beowulf is devoted to being like the Germanic heroic code, which values strength, courage, and loyalty in warriors; hospitality, generosity, and political skill in kings. This had a big deal to do with the book because Beowulf was both of things and he defiantly fits the germanic hero code. " The monster came quickly towards him, pouring out fire and smoke, hurrying to its fate. Flames beat at the iron shield, and for a time it held, protected Beowulf as he'd planned; then it began to melt, adn for the first time in his life that famous prince fought with fate against him, with glory denied him. He knew it, but he raised his sword and struck at the dragons scaly hide. The ancient Blade broke, bit into the monster's skin, drew blood, but cracked and failed him before it went deep enough helped him less then needed." (pg 105)

Another Theme i used in Beowulf is Courage. It takes a lot of courage never to back down from a challenge or a fight and beowulf never did. I think he is portrayed as the most couragous person of his time. No matter how old or how strong he was he never gave up and he never backed down from a challenge. He put his country and their men before himself."And now the youth was to enter the line of battle with his lord, his first time to be tested as a fighter. His spirit did not break and the ancestral blade would keep its edge, as the dragon discovered 8as soon as they came together in the combat. "(pg. 107-108) The battle with the dragon is Beowulf's last courageous deed, but for Wiglaf, it is only the first test of his courage. Unlike the other Geat warriors, who fled in fear when Beowulf needed them most, Wiglaf will pass this test. He showed a lot of courage when he stayed their when everyone left to be their in the Beowulfs last seconds of life.

My 3rd theme is leadership/hero. I see Beowulf as a hero and a leader. Every battle that he has he leads his army and his men. Beowulf shows me how he isn't afraid of anything and will face up to anything. He has the traits of a leader and a hero. He is confiedent, Strong, brave, couragous, and a good role model. He is the leader of his country and all the people look up to him and respect him. I found it hard to believe that all of this soilders left him when he went and fought the dragon. Because they all look up to him as if he is god and then they all abanded him when they went to battle. That is just like turning your back on god witch i don't think that is right. " The danes shook with terror. Down the aisles the battle swept, angry and wild. Herot trembled, wonderfully built to withstand teh blows the struggling great bodies beating at its beautiful walls."(pg 34-35) This is how the people feel without Beowulf their. He is kind of like the whole towns mother he takes care of them and protects them from danger.
Raffel, Burton, Trans.BEOWULF.NY:Singnet Classic, 1963.
Wiglaf was the only man that stayed with Beowulf to fight against the dragon.

1) They stretched their beloved lord in his boat, laid out by the mast, amidships. the great ring-giver. Far-fetched treasures were piled on him, and precious gear. (lines 34-37)

The Danes give their dead lord, Shield Sheafson a royal send off.

2) In off the moors, down through the mist bands .God-cursed Grendel came greedily loping. The bane of the race of men roamed forth, hunting for prey in the high hall.(lines 710-13).

3) He has done his worst but the wound will end him. He is hasped and hooped and hirpling with pain, limping and looped in it. Like a man outlawed .for wickedness, he must await. the mighty judgement of God in majesty.(lines 974-78)

Beowulf speaks after he has killed Grendel.

4) Grendel's mother, monstrous hell-bride, brooded on her wrongs. She had been forced down into fearful waters, he cold depths, after Cain had killed .his father's son, felled his own brother with a sword. (lines 1258-63)

5) A few miles from herea frost-stiffened wood waits and keeps watch above a mere; the overhanging bank is a maze of tree-roots mirrored in its surface. At night there, something uncanny happen: the water burns. (lines 1362-67)

The poet describes the mere in which Grendel's mother lives.

6) It is always better to avenge dear ones than to indulge in mourning. lines 1384-85)

7) In pure gold inlay on the sword-guards there were rune-markings correctly incised, stating and recording for whom the sword had been first made and ornamented with its scrollworked hilt. (lines 1694-98)

A description of the hilt of the sword Beowulf recovered from Grendel's mother.

8) The dragon began to belch out flames and burn bright homesteads; there was a hot glow hat scared everyone, for the vile sky-winger would leave nothing alive in his wake. (lines 2312-15)

9) Your deeds are famous,so stay resolute, my lord, defend your life now with the whole of your strength. I shall stand by you.(lines 2666-68)

Quest for Immortality

Immortality (or eternal life) is the concept of living in a physical or spiritual form for an infinite or inconceivably vast length of time.[2]

As immortality is the negation of mortality—not dying or not being subject to death—it has been a subject of fascination to humanity since at least the beginning of history.

Star Wars Test

1. I belive that the call to adventure was when Obi one Kanobi told Luke that he needed to help him save Princess Leia. Luke's Helpers were Obi One, C3Po, chewbaca, and R2D2.Luke, obi one, and the robots were together in the known part of the world together when they went to the threshold of adventure was when they crossed into the unknown which their they knew that they were not in the right spot. The threshold was when they walked into the bar with all of the aliens. At that spot they were looking for a ship to take to Death Star. At the bar they met Han he is the one that hires on with Luke and Obi One the ship. I believe the first test was when they were being chased by the storm troopers and they jumped into Hans ship and went into cyperspace then they got sucked into Death Star. Then they found the princess and went back to the known world. The new helper now is Princess Leia. The triumph is when Luke goes back to Darth Star to bring Anakin back to the good side and out of the dark side. The flight is when Darth Vador (Anakin) lets Luke takes off his mask and see that it is his father. The threshold struggle was that Luke couldn't save Darth Vador from coming back from Death Star. But Luke saved his homeland. The elixir was that Obi Kanobi and Darth Vador died.

2. In the movie Star Wars everyone in the movie is a Literary Archetypes. Luke is the hero in the movie Star Wars. He is the hero because he became a Jeddiah just like his dad. He also saved Princess Leia and his father from Death Star. Han is the anithero. The reason he is the anithero is because at the beginning he is doing everything for money but in the end he does it because he know that its whats right and he wants to be the good guy. He an
The wise fool was Obi. He was the wise fool becase he let Darth Vador kill him so he could be a savior for everyone else. No one knows how smart Obi really is.
The devil figure is defiantly Darth Vador. He was viewed both as both good and evil. He was viewed good because he sacarficed himself to save his wife. He was a Jeddiah before the emperer said that he was going to kill his wife if he didn't turn into evil or the dark side. So Lukes Father (Darth Vador) I can view Darth Vador as both good and evil.
The outcast is defiantly Chewbaca. He isn't the normal one in the movie is one one of a kind. He is always kind of by himself and just not normal. Chewbaca does help them out though when he is in the enemys shooter thing and saves Princess Leia and Han.
Darth Vador is the double guy too. He is on both sides from good and evil. He is on the evil side because the emperer made him but he would rather be on the good side. The two characters at war against each other would have to be Darth Vador and the Emperer.
The scapegoat is Obi One. He sacarficed himself when he was fighting Darth Vador with the light sabers. He let Darth Vador kill him. He was the savior now for everyone else.
The Temptress is Princess Leia. She brings destruction of those she encounters by killing them or helping out Luke and Hans in Death Star.
The good Mother is also Princess Leia. She is the good mother because she is from Earth and she was a princess at Earth. She is a leader and has the traits of being a hero as a Earth Mother.

3. I belive that Darth Vador does meet all of the criteria for being the tragic man. Darth Vador believes in his own freedom. He is confronted with choices on how to do stuff on Death Star and he always has advice and a anwser for whoever is asking him. In the movie one of the guys in death star asks what they should do. Darth Vador responces with something that could end tragically but doesn't care becase he belives in his own freedom.
He is also a supreme pride. He is equal with all of the gods because he has power over all of the people in Death Star.
Darth Vador also has capacity for suffering. He went to the Dark side because the emperer said if he didn't that his wife would be killed. Also he suffered when he and obi one were fighting in the lava field and he got severely burned.
He has a sense of commitment. Even though he is on the Dark side he is still commited to what he does. He still takes being a ruler seriously. Even though he didn't take the route he wanted to take but he is still commited to do what he is doing.
He is a vigorously protester. Since he is on the dark side he doesn't accept his fate meekly. He kills the emporer even though he knows they are on the same side.
Darth Vador also fits under transfiguation too. He fits under this one because when Luke takes off his mask and he sees that its his father. He is a lot happier now that Luke brought him out of the Dark side and on to the side.
Darth Vador also has a lot of impact on everyone in the movie. He had a lot of impact on Luke since he was his father and that he was a great Jeddiah. Luke looked up to him but he was better because even under a lot of pressure Luke didn't want to got to the Dark side even when the emperor wanted him too.

4. I believe that Luke has 3 hero traits in the Movie. I believe that the hero traits are that he is Brave, A leader, and bold headed. He is really brave when he goes back to Death star to save his father and bring him out of the dark side. He went by himself which made him very brave. He was also brave when he turned down the emperor's offer of him going into the dark side. He was a leader when he took Obi, Han, and the 2 robots to go save princess Leia from death star. He made the right choices whenever they confronted him. He also was bold headed because he turneed down the emporers offer which took some guts and then he fought him and Darth Vador all by himself.

5. I thought that a possible theme for Star Wars was Good vs. Evil. In the movie a lot of the fighting in it was good vs evil. The movie showed us that everyone has evil in us and it is our decision if we want to stay on the good side or bad side. In Anakins case he had to go over to the bad side because to save his wife or the emperor would have killed him.

I belive that the call to adventure was when Obi one Kanobi told Luke that he needed to help him save Princess Leia. I think that Han Solo and Obi One Kanobi are the helpers with Luke. The threshold of adventure was when the rescued Princess Leia from the ship. After they saved her they went back to their home. The next test was when the had to go blow up death star. Han Solo said he wasn't coming, but he came right when Luke was in trouble then they blew up Death Star. The threshold struggle was when all of Lukes flying friends started to get blown up by Darth Vador but Luke blew it up before Darth Could get him.
